Charles Evans Whittaker Federal Courthouse
The Charles Evans Whittaker Federal Courthouse encompasses 600,000 square feet and has 21 court rooms including those for the Court of Appeals, District, Magistrate, and Bankruptcy Judges. It also houses the U.S. Attorney and U.S. Trustee Offices.
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:
- Room acoustics consultation
- Sound reinforcement system design
- On-site system commissioning
AVANT ACOUSTICS was retained to design state-of-the-art sound reinforcement systems for each courtroom. These systems feature automatic mixing for the judges, staff, witnesses, lawyers, and others; jury masking systems; and programmable multi-channel recording.
Each system consists of distributed overhead loudspeakers flush-mounted in the ceiling, gooseneck microphones, a hearing assistance system, and a recording system that allows direct recording of each microphone. AVANT carefully coordinated the placement of the loudspeakers with the architect to ensure they worked with the design of the courtroom’s features.
AVANT periodically performs health checkups at the courthouse to ensure that the installed systems run as designed, and analyzes the systems for potential equipment upgrades.
