Albert J. Ellis Airport (OAJ) has a new, 67,000-square-foot terminal, constructed for $44 million. With high, sweeping ceilings, natural light, and relaxing acoustics, the terminal gives a feeling of openness and luxury for travelers.

The terminal includes ticketing and baggage claim lobbies, a central meet-and-greet lobby, security screening, and three gate holdroom areas.

AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:

  • Room acoustics consultation
  • Architectural and mechanical noise control
  • Audio and video communication (paging) system design
  • On-site system commissioning, including operator training

Project Highlights:

AVANT ACOUSTICS worked with the project team early in the design to ensure that room acoustics and noise control would contribute to the comfortable terminal environment.

Then, AVANT designed a computer-controlled audio paging system that delivers clear, crisp announcements – both prerecorded and local. The announcements are made with dedicated microphone paging stations through an architecturally integrated system of distributed ceiling loudspeakers.

Other features of the system include integrated background music, automatic level adjustment-based on ambient noise-sensing and fire alarm-initiated system overrides. The solution is designed using modular components so that it can grow with the airport.
