Due to its rapid growth, Sunnyside Baptist Church has planned a multi-phase worship center to expand their campus. For the first phase, a new 800-seat sanctuary and a classroom wing were added.

Project Highlights:
AVANT ACOUSTICS consulted with Thomas Weems Architect early in the design of the Phase 1 Sanctuary which will double in size with the next phase. It was important for the congregation to be able to hear the pastor or any speakers clearly, indicating a shorter reverberation time, supported by the ceiling cloud and wall panel design. Cushioned seating was included so that the Sanctuary would sound similar when used for a small group or when filled to capacity. It was also important to enhance the choir, at the back of the stage. Their sound is naturally redirected back into the choir to improve ensemble sound and into the congregation by an overhead sound reflector.
Each of the acoustical treatments was chosen to be scaled into the next phase larger Sanctuary. Wall panels may be demounted and moved to new walls, and ceiling treatments can be continued into the expanded space.

Chapel Hill United Methodist Church recently completed a new 860-seat sanctuary expansion to their existing facility in Wichita, Kansas.

Project Highlights:
The new sanctuary includes a traditional loudspeaker cluster design with satellite loudspeakers to provide even sound coverage to all of the “in the round” seating.
The audio-visual presentation system utilizes a high-performance screen fabric to enhance projector brightness while rejecting ambient light from the windows in the space.
Fabric upholstered seats, aisle carpeting, and fiberglass wall panels help to make the room an acoustically comfortable environment with good intelligibility, even though the room has a very large volume.

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church has created an 800-seat sanctuary addition to their existing church facility in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Project Highlights:
AVANT ACOUSTICS’ design incorporates sound absorption and loudspeakers concealed behind fabric panels. This provides proper acoustics and sound distribution while maintaining the aesthetic concerns of the space.
The sound system includes source loudspeakers at the altar and choir area to provide directional realism from these two locations of the sanctuary. Automatic microphone mixing provides natural reinforcement of speech and music without a dedicated sound system operator.

Built to provide an intimate sacred space connected with nature, the sanctuary of Congregation Beth Torah is the center of the worship experience. The large glass window revealing magnificent, mature trees and the use of indirect natural light contribute to this connection.
The sanctuary seats 400 congregants and may be expanded through the use of operable partitions to provide seating for an additional 300.

Project Highlights:
The suspended circular disc at the center of the room provides sound reflections and houses the sound reinforcement system main cluster. The main cluster components are mounted behind a circular, acoustically transparent grille in the center of the disc. This allows the sound reinforcement system to be heard but not seen. Additional 8-inch, two-way loudspeakers are mounted in the rear of the sanctuary to provide audio to these areas.
The foyer, or public square, serves as the center point of the facility. Featuring stone block walls and a limestone-patterned floor, the foyer serves as a meeting place for the congregation. A separate sound reinforcement system was designed for this area to use for meetings, celebrations, and other events.
