Like many event spaces today, the Mayo Center has a retractable airwall system that allows customization and flexibility of its rooms. Few people think about the acoustical challenges this creates. For Mayo, AVANT conducted extensive field testing of the operable partition installation to ensure the spaces would properly support concurrent uses.

This $15 million project at Hy-Vee’s Corporate Headquarters included a conference hall that subdivides into multiple configurations, a pre-function lobby, standalone conference/training rooms, a kitchen, and a cafeteria.
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:
Project Highlights:
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided consultation and design for an extremely flexible video routing and production system for the conference hall and surrounding spaces. The system is capable of routing video from any of the spaces to any of the four large projection screens in the hall and any of the many flat panel displays located throughout the lobby and ancillary spaces. The projectors and screens in the conference hall were designed to retract into the gaps between the ceiling clouds so that they disappear entirely when not in use. The loudspeaker distribution for the hall is also hidden in the gaps in the ceiling clouds and provides high-quality audio reinforcement to the entire hall.
AVANT also provided commissioning services that included the configuration of a fully-redundant audio network, as well as the creation of intuitive, user-friendly graphical interfaces for controlling the system. The control system allows the conference hall to be divided into multiple smaller spaces for smaller events.

The Johnson County Board of County Commissioners meets in the county’s Administration Building. The county recently converted this space into a television broadcast facility so that board meetings and other events could be live broadcast.
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:
Project Highlights:
The broadcast system includes five high-definition pan-tilt-zoom cameras. The new production video switcher has live streaming capabilities and a control surface that provides both video switching and camera control. A digital video recording device allows for the archival recording of proceedings.
The audio-visual system includes 80-inch displays at the front of the room and personal monitors on the dais. The entire system is controlled by touchpanels with intuitive AVANT-designed interfaces. One touchpanel is located at the clerk’s desk on the dais, and the other, which includes more advanced functions is located in the control room.

Central Community College has campuses in Grand Island, Columbus, and Hastings, Nebraska; and learning centers in Holdrege, Kearney, and Lexington.
The purpose of this project was to create audio-video systems that enable distance learning between classrooms and select conference rooms at the three main campuses and at the learning centers.
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:
Project Highlights:
AVANT ACOUSTICS designed distance learning and conferencing systems that allowed automated functionality and ease-of-management with remote access control over the college network. All in-room functions were set up to work automatically with automatic microphone mixing and automatic camera tracking. This enables instructors to walk into the classroom and begin teaching without worrying about the AV technology.
The process of recording classes was also streamlined through implementation of an automated process. Video archiving and playback included both the speaker and presentation at full resolution with searchable metadata tags and user comments.

The Athene USA offices include an 8-story tower and adjoining commons building which houses 1,300 employees and cost over $150 million. The facility sits on an 88-acre site on the outskirts of the city, and features extensive outdoor pathways and several ponds.
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:
Project Highlights:
AVANT ACOUSTICS’ design included several multi-configuration training rooms, dozens of conference rooms, a building-wide room scheduling and maintenance system to serve the meeting spaces, a digital signage system throughout the facility, and sound masking on all seven floors of open work/collaboration areas. The executive boardroom features a large rear projection screen and teleconferencing.
The “All Hands” system pictured includes three projection screens with production-level video processing capability and live audio mixing. This system enables the client to host large meetings and events in-house, rather than renting out spaces and AV equipment several times a year.

Chapel Hill United Methodist Church recently completed a new 860-seat sanctuary expansion to their existing facility in Wichita, Kansas.
AVANT ACOUSTICS provided the following services:
Project Highlights:
The new sanctuary includes a traditional loudspeaker cluster design with satellite loudspeakers to provide even sound coverage to all of the “in the round” seating.
The audio-visual presentation system utilizes a high-performance screen fabric to enhance projector brightness while rejecting ambient light from the windows in the space.
Fabric upholstered seats, aisle carpeting, and fiberglass wall panels help to make the room an acoustically comfortable environment with good intelligibility, even though the room has a very large volume.
